Be a Clean Energy Leader

Big Picture, Clean Energy, Events, Green Living Columns

We recently survived the hottest June on record in Las Vegas, though five valley residents were not so fortunate as the heat wave turned deadly. My car’s thermometer, which has always been fairly accurate, registered an outside temperature of 121 degrees as I drove across town one day. It remained there for several miles before […]

How Fresh is Your Energy?

Clean Energy, Green Living Columns, Water

There are many ways to heat water but in the end, it really boils down to how we make use of the sun’s energy. Consider these two scenarios: Scenario One: Ancient Energy The process starts hundreds of millions of years ago. The sun shines down on our planet providing energy for plants and animals to […]

Lost when it comes to water.

Finding Our Way With Water

Events, Green Living Columns, Water

Have you ever gotten really lost? I’m not talking about a wrong turn. Getting really lost usually requires some effort, like thinking you’re going the right way for so long that when you finally realize you made a mistake, it may be too late. It happens all too often, to people as well as cultures. […]

Greened House Effect is a Must Read for Homeowners

Efficiency, Green Building, Green Living Columns

It has been said that the greenest building is the one that’s already built, because so much energy is embodied in the existing structure. There is some truth to that statement and greening an existing home or building can be the shortest route to energy efficiency, long-term savings, increased comfort and environmental healing. I would […]

Clean Energy: Renters Can Do It Too!

Clean Energy, Green Living Columns, Lifestyle

One of my recent columns prompted a reader named Paul to write, “I want to move toward a greener lifestyle, especially want to incorporate solar. But since I am renting a house, I’m concerned there’s little I can do without installing things on a house I don’t own. Any ideas?” This is an excellent question […]

Save Some Dates, Save the Planet!

Clean Energy, Events, Green Building, Green Economy, Green Living Columns, Lifestyle

Green living is a broad topic and there are many ways to go about it. From my perspective the overall goal is to live lightly on the planet so as not to exceed the Earth’s ability to naturally sustain the entire diverse tapestry of life, not just us humans. Everything we do is an opportunity […]

A Sense of Urgency: It’s Too Late to do Nothing for Earth

Big Picture, Clean Energy, Deadly Energy, Efficiency, GD, Green Building, Green Living Columns

I try to keep the tone mostly warm and friendly here but what drives me to write is very serious. We are facing… no, strike that. We are creating a planetary emergency. Let me state a few facts and then tie them all together. The Earth has an energy imbalance due to added greenhouse gasses […]

Paying the Truth

The quickest way to create energy security, environmental healing and global social equity requires something we've never had - an honest marketplace.

If we simply "Pay the Truth" for the things we do, whether it is drilling, spilling and burning carbon or failing to safely use and then store nuclear waste, things will change for the better very quickly.
