Your help is needed to pass BDR 955, a bill to label genetically engineered foods in Nevada! This bill would give Nevadans the right to know if genetically modified organisms are in our food, and to be able to make informed decisions when purchasing food for our families.
It is an unfortunate fact that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are now commonly found in much of our food supply. Most other countries require labeling of food that contains GMOs since they have been shown to be hazardous and most people will not knowingly eat them, but here, these companies have spent millions of dollars to defeat laws that would require such honesty. That is wrong and we now have an opportunity to change it, right here in our state.
GMO = Chemicals
GMO food is artificially created by the world’s largest chemical manufacturers and are made to specifically survive massive applications of pesticides made by the same companies. This is nothing short of a violent attack on the natural world and our personal health. These foods have not been properly tested and they do not provide any long-term benefits to society. Some independent testing has shown they are capable of doing great harm. They do provide massive profits – solely at our expense.
Let’s get back on the right track by requiring the labeling of GMO foods in Nevada! A similar bill was barely defeated in California recently, but only after a massive infusion of cash by GMO companies. In other words, they bought the vote by spending tens of millions of dollars and a barrage of misleading advertising. Let’s show them that Nevadans can’t be pushed around or misled. We simply want what’s right – honest labels on our food. We can set an example that will help change the nation!
There is a bill in the state legislature right now that needs your support. Please contact your state legislators and let them know you want honest labeling and transparency when it comes to our food.

Over 80 percent of processed foods sold in grocery stores contain at least one genetically engineered ingredient, typically soy, corn, canola, sugar, or cotton seed oil. Polls conducted by professional news organizations including the Washington Post, MSNBC and Reuters/NPR consistently show that over 90 percent of consumers want GM ingredients labeled. Consumers have a right to know if there are GMO ingredients in their food, just as they have a right to know if there is sugar, soy, wheat, nuts, saturated fat, dairy, salt or any other ingredients they may have reasons to avoid.

LABEL GMO NEVADA (and their 2000+ individual members) is working to provide Nevada consumers with that information through a bill introduced at the 2013 legislature. This bill, BDR 955, would give Nevada consumers the right to know if genetically modified organisms are in our food, and to be able to make informed decisions when purchasing food for our families.
Label GMO Nevada – A Grassroots Movement
From Label GMO Nevada:
LabelGMONevada.org is a statewide network of advocates declaring our fundamental right to know if our food contains ingredients derived from Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Together, we are building a critical mass of support for the passage of legislation requiring the mandatory labeling of GMO foods in Nevada.
LabelGMONevada is addressing food safety (chemical-free and unadulterated food), food freedom (the right to choose your own food or farmer), and food sovereignty (the right of local regions to determine food safety standards and appropriate agricultural technologies despite international trade agreements).
